Cultivate 2022 Kicks Off

The Seedlab Tasmania Cultivate Accelerator Program for 2022 has officially begun this week. We’ve been pleased to welcome 17 Tassie businesses into the 4 month program designed to propel them to the next level.

Of our 17 new Cultivators, 71% have previously undertaken a Seedlab Tasmania Bootcamp program, or are currently undertaking the program via the Seedlab Sisters Cradle Coast program, supported by the Department of Communities, and the Cradle Coast Authority. Over half of the participating businesses have been founded by women, including one indigenous business.

With a great representation from across the state we’re so excited to knuckle down and get into the learning.

One of our new Cultivators, Vertical Pastures is a unique vertical hydroponic farming company growing salads and herbs for food service. Peter Handy attended our very first Seedlab Tasmania Bootcamp program, pre-COVID in early 2020. Since then he has continued to be involved in some of our events, and has kept engaged via the private Facebook group.

His reason for applying for Cultivate is “Due to the unique situation that we find ourselves in at the moment with the majority of the Eastern seaboard farmers not being able to grow lettuce due to floods and the rising water table, I find that I may need a little help in upscaling and continuing with the fast growth that I am experiencing.”

We certainly can’t wait to see what is in store for Peter and the rest of our 17 Cultivate participants as they move through the program and beyond.
